Ghosts

It's the night before Halloween. And something that occurred on the train ride home tonight inspired me to write a poem.

I thought I saw you on the train again,

but it was the You I had known.

The You with the adorable chipped-tooth smile,

that made my heart sing once.

Slightly pulled up on one side, a mischievous smirk forever playing on your youthful face.

The warm hazel eyes with amber rings that locked onto mine, greens, browns and blues bouncing off each other like the sun on the ocean.

The You who made me laugh, helped me breathe and made me whole.

The You I had known.

Before you became the You that I knew.

The playful mouth, once happy and sly, now drooped with the slur of poison and sorrow.

The eyes, once aglow and lively, now a sickening shade of red.

Gone were the days of laughter, laborious was my breathing as I imagined life without you, the air thick with pain as it moved through my body.

What once was whole was now in pieces.

You were not the You I had known anymore.

And you never would be again.

I thought I saw you, but it could not have been,

and even if it were,

I don’t know You anymore.

2009... the year I grow up... finally.

Or so it would seem. All signs seem to point to this year as "the year". The year I will go back to school (check, classes start Jan 26th), The year I get my own place (our lease ends in August so... I will check that one when I have a new lease), The year I turn 26, no longer in my "early" twenties but now my "mid to late" twenties (check, oh god, Feb 10th is right around the corner isn't it!?!).... With all of these milestones coming up, it looks as though this will be indeed a year of many changes for me. I'm excited, and nervous, but I'm hoping that these will be good things, and good changes for me. I guess it is time for me to grow up.... if only I could actually GROW a little in the process :p

So Happy New Year to all, and hopefully this year will bring something good for all of you as well :)

Naptime!

Why is it that the best naps always involve drooling?

I just woke up from the BEST nap I have had in a long time, only to find myself in a puddle of drool. Normally, my first reaction is to be grossed out at myself... cause you know.... ew. But on further thought, I came to realize, that the best naps ALWAYS involve drool. I think it's because you're so immersed in nap-heaven that you can't control your motor functions. And as much as it grosses me out to admit it, when I think back to some of my best naps, they have all ended up the same way...

Maybe that's part of why they are so awesome?

Walking down memory lane...

Found the link to my old blog... I am already doing so much better as far as actually writing in this blog more than once a month. This is the point, where I take a step back, and admire how much I have grown... when it comes to blogging.

Enjoy! thingstothinkabout.myblogsite.com/

Young at heart.....

This weekend I had TWO age mix-ups. They were both sort of humiliating, and hilarious, but that is how they tend to be.

Friday night at Tami's party, I got hit on by a 20 year old. Why would a 20 year old hit on an almost 26 year old, you might ask? Well, because he thought I was 19! Hence the humiliating.. then of course, once he found out how old I really was, he still hit on me... hence the hilarious!!!

Saturday I went out to LI for family time, but the trains were all messed up, there were no direct trains to or from Woodside, so I had to do the transfer-at-Jamaica- thing. Normally I don't mind, but when it's 20 degrees and late at night, I tend to not want to stand on a platform edge. So, I opted to take a cab from Jamaica to Woodside. There are no such things as yellow cabs out there, so I hesitantly took a "car service". Naturally, I got on the phone as soon as I got in the back seat, so there would be less chance of the guy taking me back to his shack in the woods, and chopping me up to bits.... first call was to my dad, who asked that I let him know that I got into a cab safely and what not. Then to my Donny, who graciously talked for me through the entire car ride. When we got to my place, and I went to pay the driver said "Are you old enough to take a cab honey? What are you... 16 years old?"... shocked, I said "no I'm 25, but thanks!" smiled, handed him the money and got out, happy to be in one piece.

So maybe one day I'll be happy to have this child-like face, but for now... I'll just console myself with the fact that serial killers probably don't go after teenagers anyway ;)

My love for serial killers knows no bounds...

I'd like to take this time to personally, and publicly thank Matt Lambros for introducing me to Dexter. He had been trying to get me to watch it/read it since we met back in July. But I was hesitant to get into it. However, this week, when over his house for our standard Wednesday date, I was looking for something to replace the void left by Pushing Daisies this week (no new episodes until the 19th? BULLSHIT!) So we whipped out the Dexter DVD after a disastrous episode of "Dead Like Me" (Matt's attempt to make me like anything else by Bryan Fuller of Pushing Daisies creation-fame) and started watching. And let me tell you, from the first minute, the first scene, the first words out of Michael C. Hall's deliciously disturbed mouth... I was hooked.

If you haven't watched it, you should really get on that. Take away the blood and gore of it, and there is an awesome storyline. It's almost "American Psycho" esque in it's weirdness and the way it sucks you in right away, and makes you feel for a character that has such flaws. It's just done SO well.

In other news, I think I might have some sort of major mental and psychotic problem, in that I find myself constantly interested in these murderous stories, and on top of that, lusting after the actors that play these characters. Not that I can be blamed, when the actors in question are Michael C. Hall and Christian Bale... but still. Maybe I should have that looked at?

You be the judge:

Post Election Wrap Up.....

Well folks, it's over. This was quite possibly the most exciting election to happen in 25 years or so. I really feel like I got involved this time, and made good decisions, and felt like a part of the democratic process, which in the past, I hadn't really been interested in. When all is said and done, I just have a few thoughts.

  • Not only did Obama win, but he PUMMELED the competition. I was hoping he would win of course, but I had a sneaking feeling that if he did, it might only be by the skin of his teeth. When they announced his win, at a whopping 297 votes to McCains paltry 156 I was ecstatic! He later went on to win 338 (by the time I went to sleep anyway), which is most certainly not by the skin of his anything! It was such a relief. And to see things like "LANDSLIDE VICTORY" instead of just "VICTORY" makes all the difference when we think about what this means for our Country.
  • It also makes me really happy that he won by so much because, this means that there are people who are ready for change. Ready for progress, ready for anything. It's amazing. I hope that one day, Barack Obama gets his very own animatronic dummy in the "Carousel of Progress" at Disney World.
  • McCain was very gracious in his speech, and I was happy to see that even though he lost, he wasn't bitter (at least not on camera), In the end, he probably knew it was the best thing, and he even designated his campaign "the most challenged" after having been up against Obama.
  • Finally, I just think it's sort of funny that on my facebook page's status feed, not ONE person on my list is saying "Boo Obama" or anything of that nature. This is funny to me because I honestly thought that at least one of the people on said page would be republican, only because not everyone on there is my good friend, some of them are acquaintances and therefore I wouldn't know anything about their political standing.
At the end of the day, I'm just happy that we are finally taking a step forward as a Country. When Obama started running against Clinton I said "This is win-win" and I meant it. Because, either way, we were going to change the face of this Country, and take HUGE steps towards a different future for us, and our children, and our children's children. All it takes is an open mind.

My heart beats true... for the red white and blue!

Wow, another election come and gone... now we just have to sit back, patiently, and wait for the results. The results that will inevitably CHANGE our lives FOREVER!!!

Not that I'm being dramatic about it :)

In related news, here is a HILARIOUS clip my friend Dane sent me, which I think accurately sums up what would have happened if I voted for McCain this morning... Enjoy!
